What is Decision Routing?

Most findings die on the way to a decision. The analysis was right, the anomaly was real, the pattern was caught in time, and none of it mattered, because the finding was delivered as a report: a document whose only built-in verb is read. Somebody was informed. Nobody was asked to choose.

Decision routing closes that gap. Decision routing sends a finding to a surface built for choosing, with the evidence attached, the options ranked and the choice recorded, instead of to a document built for reading.

Informing is not deciding

A report has no options, no owner, no clock and no memory. It transfers information and stops, and everything after it is voluntary: someone must read it, judge it important, convene the right people, frame the alternatives, force a choice and write the choice down. Each step is a place where the finding can quietly die, and in most organisations the mortality rate across that chain is brutal. The failure is rarely analytical. The detection worked; the delivery mechanism assumed that informed people reliably become deciding people, and they do not.

Routing collapses the chain. Instead of publishing the finding and hoping a decision condenses around it, the finding is delivered directly to the place where the decision will be made. Its destination is not an inbox; it is the choice it demands. That reframing is the whole idea: a finding is not a piece of content to be circulated but the opening move of a decision, and it should arrive wherever that decision will be made, carrying everything the decision needs.

How ONX routes findings

In ONX, detected patterns and published decisions route into a Decision Room rather than a report. Compound patterns are the sharpest case: cross-domain detectors watch for conditions no single function can see, and every detected pattern is explainable, challengeable, traceable and falsifiable, with a lifecycle of its own. A pattern like that is wasted in a PDF. It routes to a room, where it arrives with its evidence attached and candidate options ranked by the earliest date each clears every binding constraint. A human always makes the call, and if they overrule the ranking, the override is recorded: who, when, against what evidence. The room is where the choice is made and recorded, so the finding does not merely inform a decision that may happen elsewhere. It convenes the decision.

One concrete example

Clearly illustrative, with no customer implied. A detector notices a combination no single team was positioned to see: a client renewal is being shaped around a service mix that the firm’s own technology roadmap is about to automate away. The account team saw a healthy renewal. The technology team saw a welcome efficiency. Only the combination is dangerous. Delivered as a report, the finding becomes a paragraph in a quarterly review, read after the renewal is signed. Routed as a decision, it lands in a Decision Room with the evidence from both domains attached and options priced: reprice the renewal, rescope the automation, renegotiate the timing. The account lead chooses, the choice and its reasoning are recorded, and the pattern’s lifecycle closes with a decision rather than fading into the archive.

Destinations discipline findings

Routing changes detection itself. A finding that must survive scrutiny in a Decision Room, challengeable and falsifiable in front of the person who has to act on it, gets built more honestly than one destined for a slide. Vague alarms do not survive rooms; they survive reports. And routing ends the most corrosive outcome in enterprise analytics, the finding marked noted: everything routed either becomes a recorded decision or is explicitly dismissed, and the dismissal is itself a recorded choice someone owns. Over time that record becomes its own instrument, because an organisation that knows what it decided, and what it declined to decide, can finally see how it responds to warning.

The deeper shift is in what the organisation believes its intelligence is for. Reporting cultures treat insight as a product to be circulated; Enterprise Decision Intelligence treats it as an input to a choice that must be made, recorded and eventually scored. Detection is only ever half the work. The other half is making sure that what was detected arrives somewhere a person has to decide, and that the deciding leaves a trace.
